WHAT IS SPRAY POLYURETHANE FOAM?
Spray polyurethane foam (SPF) is a high-performance insulation material made by mixing MDI (Isocyanate) and Polyol Blend on-site. It expands on contact, forming a seamless thermal and air-sealing barrier on walls, roofs, and other surfaces.
Available in High-Density, Medium-Density, and Low-Density types, SPF provides superior insulation, moisture resistance, and structural reinforcement. It helps reduce energy costs, minimize air infiltration, and improve overall building efficiency.
TYPES OF SPRAY POLYURETHANE FOAM
There are three primary types of SPF that can be used for insulation and other specific purposes:
-HIGH-DENSITY SPF ADVANTAGES: Often used for exterior and roofing applications.
Builders often turn to high-density spray foam when high insulation values and strength are needed. It is an excellent choice for roofing or other exterior insulation due to its seamless, monolithic nature. High-density spray foam helps reduce energy costs and provides protection against air and water infiltration.
-MEDIUM-DENSITY SPF ADVANTAGES: Often used for continuous insulation, interior cavity fill, and unvented attic applications.
Medium-density foam acts as an air, vapor, and water barrier. It provides high tensile strength, low vapor permanence, and resistance against moisture.
-LOW-DENSITY SPF ADVANTAGES: Often used for interior cavity fill and unvented attic applications.
Also known as open-cell foam, it is lightweight and provides continuous insulation while maintaining some flexibility after curing. It seals airflow and helps absorb sound.
THE MAIN DELIVERY SYSTEMS INCLUDE:
HIGH-PRESSURE, TWO-COMPONENT FOAM: Used for large areas, such as new construction or major renovations.
LOW-PRESSURE, TWO-COMPONENT FOAM SPF KITS: Portable systems for small to mid-sized areas.
POLYURETHANE SPRAY
Spray-applied polyurethane chemicals with a density ranging from 40–55 kg/m³ is ideal for insulating either small or large areas within a short time. It also acts as a moisture and vapor barrier.
ADVANTAGES:
- Superior thermal insulation with high R-value
- Environmentally friendly, CFC & HCFC free
- Reduces energy consumption and emissions
- Excellent operational ability and flexibility
APPLICATIONS:
- Roof and wall insulation
- Sandwich panels
- Refrigeration (water heaters, commercial freezers)
- Pipe insulation
- Block foam
- Fire doors
